| Personal History | Jack “Corsair” Halloran was born in the Federation Colony on Cygnia Minor; his parents were both research scientists on contract to whoever would pay the best at the time, sometimes the Federation, sometimes smugglers or other questionable people. As he grew, he learned that not everyone is as they appear to be and so learned to delve into the world of engineering which he trusted more than people due to the betrayal his parents suffered from time to time. He learned that machines and inanimate objects would not hurt or betray people like his parents and was able to lose himself in the designing and building of the things that interested him. It didn’t come naturally but he always enjoyed the challenge. As a young teenager he studied at the local college and became the “go to guy” for people who needed special modifications to anything. At the age of only fifteen he was able to help the local council to build a more efficient purification system for the town. At the age of eighteen he finished his university and worked with some of the larger manufacturers over the next five years. At an undisclosed weapon testing facility Halloran was working in a team on a new ship weapon system. A major incident occurred, and a number of people were injured or killed. A team from the Starfleet Corps of Engineers arrived to investigate and take stock of the situation and lend a hand. Halloran was quite impressed with them but thought a career in Starfleet was not for him. Years went by until one day bored at work flipping through the interplanetary subspace communication network he came across and recruitment advert for Starfleet and he thought back to the experience he had with the Starfleet Corps of Engineers and how exciting that would be. He did a little more digging and saw that Starfleet could be an exciting adventure but perhaps he might be too old to join by this stage. A little more digging showed that he was not and decided to attempt an application. With utter surprise a year later, he had entered Starfleet Academy and with the years of experience and knowledge he was able to fast track his way through the academy and land an assignment on the USS Tydirium under the command of Vice Admiral V'Pier.
