Shapeshifters

Before transferring to the Ty, I had never before had the pleasure of working with a shapeshifter. I learnt about them during my studies at the Academy. But to be able to work under a CO who is a shapeshifter is ... let me say an honor. The Commodore is not at all what I expected. I was expecting to face what I call "the wall" -- a psychological barrier that shapeshifters use to separate themselves from solids (which is pretty much the rest of us). From my first meeting with him, I find the Commodore to be quite personable, and genuinely interested in the well-being of his crew. He is also at ease with families on the ship, and responds quite well to children.
I will spend some time reading the work of Dr. Julian Bashir, who has more experience with shapeshifters. Perhaps some day I may even have the pleasure of working with him! But for now, the Ty needs me.
